The Arrow Flat Hydraulic Sluicing Company got the water on to their claim on Monday.
The contractors are about to make a start in building the pontoons for the Merrimac dredge at Gibbston.
The directors of the Shotover Gold Dredging Company expect to have their dredge (lately purchased) on the ground, ready to work, early next week.
The Hartley and Ryley dredge beat all her previous last week, with the sensational return of 1187oz 14dwt, which is nearly double that of her previous best. Shares are now selling at £23 17s. The first meeting of shareholders in Lafranchi’s Freehold Gold Dredging Company was held in Dunedin on Monday last. The following were elected directors:—Messrs S. N. Brown (chairman), W. Davidson, J. O’Connor junr., A- Lafranchi, A. J. Park, J. J. Connor, and John Duthie. Mr Lafranchi gave information regarding the Company’s property, and some specimens from the claim were exhibited. Operations will be promptly commenced.— Star.
Mr Davis, manager of the Morning Star mine, Preservation Inlet, has sent up a cake of gold weighing 260z 3dwt, from 53 tons of stone, as the result of four men’s work for the month, the whole being in the stopes getting out the stone for the first fortnight and two men the last fortnight, the manag n r and another working the battery. Mr Davis says the stone is improving and vrges the directors to allow him to employ two more men, as during the next month he will have to spend some time
