Mining News.

It is reported that 2-loz of gold was picked up on the surface of Mr Miller's claim, Arrow Falls, in two days. If the rumor be true, it is another positive proof of the richness, up the Arrow River.

Mr VY. J. Stanford, manager of the Glenrock Company, reports :—" For December 480 tons crushed produced 321 oz Gldwt melted gold. 24. tons concentrates produced £7? worth of gold. For the year 3848 tons crushed produced 28240z gold value .£11,296, out of which London has received £2550. The cyanide plant for the year yielded £l5O from 40 tons treated."—Returns like the above must be- highly gratifying to the share holders at Home. Such a "port as the above speaks volumes for the careful management of the mine. When dividends are declared it gives the investors in N.Z, mines increased confidence. The returns from this mine would have still been better had not some necessary been made to the machinery.. The stone ahead is looking splendid, and we are confident that the returns in future will eclipse those of the past. Macetown is in a decidedly flourishing state just now.

"The Westralia Oo.'s mine lias also struck another good shoot, and before lun» we expect to hear of her yielding up the golden treasure more abundantly than heretofore. We have been informed on pood authority that the Garibaldi Mine,, the property of Mr W. J. Farrell, is in u'most healthy state. A great body of stone is in view showing good gold all through. Mr Farrell expects to have a suhstan tial cake down ere long. We wish bin) all success in his venture, as he is well deserving of it. Mr Farrell was the first man to inorodu.ee foreign capital into the district. As the locality is a mass of reefs, with many yet to he developed, and others yielding substantial retuna, it is sufe to predict that Maceto'vn will yet beoneoftiie most prominent mining centres in Otago—if not New Zealand.
