BARLEY BUYING. . *TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —A letter, with accompanying sale reports, appeared in your last issue, initialled by “ W.E.R.” In the same issue Moritzjou and Hopkin also have a grain report giving fabulous quotations, considerably above old well-known grain brokers. How can this be accounted seeing that M. and H. are comparatively new in. the grain trade as compared with the two firms whose quotations appeared in the paper ? The new firm also wants to secure the whole of the district’s 12,000 sacks in order to secure a good commission, but they do not want to pay for Bor 10 days after delivery, although delivery is Frankton ; moreover M. and H. wishes to form a combination before they will guarantee the quotation mentioned in their foot note. Surely M. and H. can hardly think the farmers are going to combine and give the whole of the grain into their hands without some guarantee that the grain will be paid for before it leaves Frankton, or iu other words, no grain delivered until cash is paid over. I would suggest Messrs M. and H. visit here without any combination aud pay net cash at Frankton to each individual when the last load is delivered, thereby saving any risk, bother, or trouble, as it is easier to settle any little liitch at Frankton than afterwards aud will also prevent any reflection when the train reaches its distillation, and further the grower will have the satisfaction of seeing his grain weighed and go back with his money in his pocket, (making it a pleasure to buyer and seller. No doubt our farmers are well satisfied at the manner in which they done their business in the past, without binding themselves to any individual commission agent or guaranteeing any firm a commission ; but the farmers, as with commercial people generally, are always open to accept better offers, and by M. and H. doing as I suggest they certainly should secure the back of the barley. So that by keeping a man at Frankton with the necessary L.S.D. and the seller paying commission it would be mutually advantageous to both M. and H. aud our district farmers.—l am, etc., Net Cash, Frankton.
