CRICKET MATCH.

Quoeastewa v. Arrow. “ The first match of the season be- < ;en Queenstow and Arrown Clubs off on tho ground of the latter, ou Saturday last. Some delay was occasioned in starting play, owing to a few of the Arrow men not being able to turn up at the appointed time 1 but all of the eleven managed fcj get up just before oue o’clock. Arrow won the toss and sent Queenstown to the wickets. Gavin and Anderson were the first to face the bow'ers, M'Skiruming and W. Anderson, Anderson proving to be in good fettle. Thebitsmenhad toplay a careful game, and had to be contented with ones and twos at intervals. The Arrow men showed very loose fielding at the start, and indeed throughout the match, a want of practice probably being the cause. The last wieket fell about 2.30, the principle scorers being Moore (12), Oavin (9), Gardner (8). With the low score of £5 against them, the Arrow men bed every prospect of victory 1 but tho Anderson Bros, fell far sliort of expectations, making no stand against the bowling. M‘Skimming ran up a dozen before Boyne found his wicket. G. Scoles played carefully for 15, and J- Jenkins made a stand fora considerable time by judicious play scoring 10, when a ball from Boyne shivered his timber. The score at this time stood at 40, 5 men to go in, so that the Arrowhad only to make 15 to tie with Queenstown. But the Arrow completely collapsed, not a single run being contributed off the bat by the six meu who followed. Tho innings closed for 46, being 9 behind Queenstown. The visitors in their second innings were more successful than in tho first, running up a score of 72, Bevin coming out In his old form, and hitting M'Skimraing’s bowling away to long on for fours and threea repeatedly, until be had put together a quarter of a century, when G. Scoles managed to find his wicket. Gardner contributed a well-played 13, and Robertson 10. The only bowlers who deserve mention in this innings were G. Scoles and Joshua Scoles, the latter taking four wickets, of which throe were in one over. With 82 to win, the local team again went to the wickets, hut their chance of victory looked anything but encouraging. The fielding of the Queenstown team here showed to advantage, six of the Arrow being caught and three run out Tho {pnincra closed for 39. The principal gcoren were M'Fadzean (9), M'Skimming (7), and Romans (who played a careful 6). The hat stump fell at 10 minutes to six, tho Queenstown Club thus winning by 42. Before leaving the ground Captain Anderson called for three cheers for the Queenstown team, which was heartily responded to. The compli-

ment was returned by the visitors. Mr H. B. Smith scored for Arrow; Mr Ross for Queenstown. Mr T. Lister umpired for Arrow, while Mr Crofts filled the oliice for Queenstown.
