rpHE FURE-BRED CLYDESDALE HORSE, DEFIAISI CE Will Travel the Arrow and Queenstown Districts this Season. DEFIANCE is a dapple bay, standing 16J hands high, with immense bone' and substance. He is rising three years old, and is acknowledged to be the best Colonial-bred horse in Australia and New Zealand. Defiakce is by Crawford's Lord Clyde—dam, Maggie. Maggie, by Baron of Glenlee out of Mag Ist. Lord Clyde was bred by D. McFarlane, Esq., Toir, Helensburgh, out of his bay mare Jess, granddam Tibbie, grandsire Clydesdale Tarn, g. grandsire Old France. Lord Cl}'de was got by Emperor, grandsire Sir Walter Scott, g. grandsire Old Prince, g.g. grandsire Old Clyde. Lord Clyde obtained the following prizes in Scotland when one year old:—First prizes at Hibhopbriggs, Kirkintilloch, East Kilbride, Johnstone, and first prize for the best yearling colt of the Clydesdale breed. When two years old he obtained first prizes at Barhead, Johnstone, and Renfrewshire, second at the Highland Society's Show. When thiee years old he obtained a prize of L4O for the best stallion of Clydesdale breed (open to all ages), and first prizes in two classes at the Highland Society's Show. Lord Clyde has proved himself a sure foal-getter, and one of the finest sires in the world; his stock carrying away last year more prizes, for yearlings than any other sire in the colony. The first and second prize colts at Sand--hurst, the first and third prize fillies at Sandhurst, the first and secoud prize colts at Kyneton, first and third prize fillies at Kyneton, first prize colt at the Grand National, Melbourne (which was sold for 300 guineas to go to Adelaide), and the first prize filly at the Grand National, Melbourne. The above prize-takers are all Lord Clyde progeny. Maggie was once exhibited as a yearling when she received second prize at Smeaton As a three .year-old was first at Ballarat, Smeaton, and Myrniong shows. In 1873 she received first at Smeaton as dry mare, first at Ballarat as one of apair, and second at Kyneton for dry mare. In 1875 she gained first prize at Kyneton for brood mare, and Champion Cup for best animal in Class A, capable of producing its kind, in a Class of 36 entries. In 1876 Maggie gained first prize at Smeaton for brood mare, and Champion Cup for best animal in the yard capable of producing its kind, first at Newstead for best brood mai e, first at the National Agricultural Society's Show, Melbourne, for brood mare, and Champion Cup for best mare or fiily (imported or colonial), also Champion Cup for best pair of mares bred in the colony, in conjunction with her half-sister Maggie Clyde. In 1877, at Stawell Grand National Show, received the Board's- prize of 10 bovs., also Champion prize of 10 sovs. for best female in the yard, first prize at Ballarat for brood mare, first at National Agricultural Society's Spring Show, at Melbourne, and Champion Cup for best mare or filly in the yard (imported or colonial) ; first prize at Kyneton for best brood mare—her half-sister Maggie Clyde gaining second—in a class of 15; also Champion Cnp, in with her half-sisters Maggie Clyde and Blossom, for the three best draught mares. In 1878 first prize at Talbot for brood mare, in a class of 13; first at Ballarat for brood mare; first at National Agricultural Society's Show, Melbourne, and Champion Cup for the best female (any age); also first prize at Kyneton for brood mare, and Champion Cup for best female in the yard.
