RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

Before H. A. Stratford. Esq. R.M., Tuesday, Dec. 2ja>. R. Phinn v. M. Butler.— A. complaint charging defendant with conduct calculated to provoke a breach of the peace, and asking that she be bound over. Mr Blood appeared for the defence. The evidence occupied one hour in taking, and disclosed the fact, as Mr Blood pointed out in addressing the Bench, that it was a squabble between two women who were neighbours at the Kawarau. Some exceedingly choice language appeared to have been used on both sides. His Worship dismissed the case, each party paying their own costs, remarking that if they could not agree b >th parties might have to be bound over to keep the peace. The case ought never to have come into Court. G. Heller v. Williams and Archer.— Claim of £l7, loss sustained by nondelivery of a case delivered to defendants as public carriers. Mr Blood for plaintiff, Mr Turton for defendants. Mr Blood said the cane in question was consigned to plaintiff, and had arrived safely at Kingston, from whence it had been lost sight of. G. Heller was called; but at the commencement of his evidence it was mentioned that Mr Kerr, of Kingston, who could prove delivery to defendants! had been subpeenad but did not appear Mr Blood, therefore, asked for an adjournment. After some little argument, an adjournment was granted to the 16th inst., the venue being changed to Queenstown, by content of both parties. Plaintiff to pay defendants £2 8s witnesses* expenses, and £1 Is professional fee, with adjournment fee, 3s. R. Pritchard ». J. Baker,—Judgment summons for £lO Bs. Order made for payment of amount, with accrued expenses, in two instalments on the 31st December and 31st January, in d« fault fifteen days' imprisonment.
