The Weekly Times (Invercargill) says :—While the Immigration Officer, Mr Pearson, was on board the Timaru on 24th ult. endeavor-ug to induce a number of her passengers to remain in Southland, there was one case in which his well-known powers of persuasion proved entirely ineffectual. A stalwa* t blacksmith and horse-ahoer. bailing from Aberdeen awa, took Mr Pearson’s eye, as likely to prove an acquisition to the district. After some conversation, it came out that the newcomer had been advised by Mr Adam, the Provincial 'tent for Otago, not on any account to la. 1 at the Bluff, but to proceed to Du din. We are not aware that it falls thin the scope of Mr Adam’s duly to favoi one part of the province at the expense of another, and perhaps he will have the goodness to point out the feature in Southland which condemns it as unfit for the reception of any immigrant.
