ARROW SCHOOL COMMITTEE

Thursday, 6th May, 1870. [This report was crowded oiit-fru.it* Ust issue.] Present—Messrs McDougall (Chairman), J. F. Healey (hon. sec), J. Elliott, J. Ferguson, and Robert McCracken. MINUTES, r, The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. Two letters were read from Jas. Hislop. Esq;, Secretary of the Educational Board, one stating that the two-thirds subsidy, as applied for by the Committee, had been passed by the Board, viz.: £27 Us 6d, and the other relating to the application for £250 for repairs, school wall, &c, and stating that the matter would be duly jaid before the Board. A letter.was read from the I. 0. Good Templars, asking for the use of the Bchool room for meetings of their.' lodge, and offering.the sum of £2 10s per quarter for the same, .also enclosing £2 2a for rent of school room to 30th April, 1875. Outward correspondence was as follows : Fran Mr It. McDougall to Mr Hislop, through Mr S. Gpldston,who was gone to Dunedin and thereby enubling the transfer of the school lands tin easy matter, as Mr Goldaton and Mr Hislop were the twoprincipals. -'■ ■ ■'- To the Arrow Amateur Dramatic Club, granting the use of the school room, free, on ceitain nights, for rehearsal, until after their first performance. Foord, for fixing desks, &0., subject to the work being approved of by Messrs Healey and Elliott, The Schoolmaster's arrears of salary were discussed, and arrangements were made to make a part payment of the same in a •Week or twov> •-• li .: . , -'■ It was resolved that the secretary write to John Hislop,- thanking him for the attention the Committee's requirements, had received at his hands. Resolved—That the offer from the Good Templars to rent the school house for £2 10s per quarter, be accepted.' Proposed by Mr Elliott, seconded by Mr Ferguson, and carried—"That the two school closets be finished, and that Messrs. McDougall, Elliott, and Healey bs empowered to arrange with a carpenter for the necessary work and material. Proposed by Mr John Elliott, seconded by Mr Ferguson, and. carried—" That Messrs McDougall, Healey, and'the mover, be a committee appointed to deal with the matter of paying a portion of the schoolmaster's arrears in salary, as soon as funds are available, thus having the calling of a special meeting for thei purpose. A subscription of 10s was'handed into the Committee, from Mr Jas. Reid.
