UNION SABBATH SCHOOL.
The annual examination of scholars on the breaking up ot the. school for the winter months, was held last Saturday, at the School-house, by Mr Warden Stratford, the Superintendent of the Schodi'. / y - • w A large number of parents of the children and others interested inreligiouseduoation, were present. The school was favored with the aid of Mrs Holland, who kindly attended to accompany the singing, by playiug the harmonium belonging to the Templar’s Lodge, which had been lent for the occasion. The exercises consisted in repeating chapters of the Scriptures from memory and in answering questions relating to various scripture subjects, as well as repealing hymns. The hymus introduced at interars by the w hole of the scholars, were most creditably sung, and formed a very pleasing feature in the exercises of the day. Those present had every reason to feel grateful to Mr Stratford, and the tfc- . ers of the school for the labors whicti they are performing, as by their means the children are taught to reverei.ee the Sabbath by their attendance, discipline and obedience while in the school, besides acquiring religious knowledge, and consequent mental and moral training. Mr Stratford, in closing the examination informed those present that the attendance of scholars showed a satisfactory, atid steady increase ; that it was considered necessary to close the school during the four winter months because most of the children lived some distance off. He hoped that the scholars would read their books during the recess; and expressed thanks to the parents and friends for their attendance, as it was an encouragement to have the results of their work thus brought under the eye of those interested, in the children, while their non-attendance, would have excited a depressing effect. The School was then closed, and the various, classes marched off in single file in the most orderly manner. Marks. Fiiet prize of School, James Reid 343 Ist Class—H. A. Stratford, Teacher.
