The following paragraph from the Guardiqn of Ist instant, is rather startling, if true : It has pome to our knowledge that several consignments of old clothes —unredeemed pawnbrokers’pledges— have been shipped out to, and sold in shillingsworths by auction, in Dunedin lately These consignments are from the lowes and most disease-infected districts of East Lopdon, and every stinking package bears with it the germs of disease ; and as the purchasers herp are of the lowest class, the opportunities for disseminating and propagating disease ore extremely favorable. This may account f or the extraordinary outbreak of measles which has been ravaging the city of Lite. We think it is incumbent on the authorities to look to tnis at once. Snips, passengers, and passengers’ luggage are fumigated; but the filthy cast-off garments of St. Giles’s are admitted in all their original impurity.
