GIBBSTON ANNUAL DISTRICT RACES.
The Gibbston race meeting was held at Deep Creek on Ist instant. The day was cloudy but the rain kept off. The attendance was very fair. The principal event of the day was the Open Handicap, which, after an exciting race was won by Mr Scoles’ Ivanhoe. The rest of the events were confined to district horses, the first of which was the Maiden Plate, 6 Sovs.—Weight for age; distance, miles. For horses that have never won advertised moneys. Mr D. M'Gregor’s Garryowen, aged (Phillips) j Mr T. Kinross’ Sir Roger, 6 yrs - 2 Hack Race, 5 Sovs—Weight, 10-stone; |-mile heats. For grass-fed horses. Winner of the Maiden Plate to he disqualified. T. Kinross’ Bessie (Cotter) - i i H. C. Sproull’s Aggie - . 22 G. Simpson s Geordio - - 0 0 Town Plate, 7 Sovs—Weight for age; distance, 2 miles. D. Ai'Gregor’s Garryowen. aged, 9st7lb (Phillips) r . t - 1 T. Kinross’ Meg, aged, 9st 71b I . 2 M'Gregor’s Little Nell, 4 yrs, Bst 111b - 3 In the second time round Ipttlp bolted off rhe course before coming into the straight, and was out of it. The trotting race was the ne*t on the programme but was postponed to allow horses that had come from a distance for the Open Handicap to return home. Trotting Race, 4 Sovs—Weight not less than 10 stone ; distance, 4 miles. Entrance, 10s, to be addeu. Kinross' Jemmie (Leslie) - » - J M'Gregor's Gipsy . - g Consolation Hanpicap, 3 Sovs—Distance, 11 miles. For all beaten horses. Bailey's Young Leamington, 11st 21b - 1 M'Gregor's Little Nell, Bst - • - 2 The Hospital Race, distance one and a half miles, for £4 lls6d collected on the ground, was won by. Mr Parson's Clyde. Three ran. After the Hospital Race was run, a couple of foot-races were got off, which brought a successful day's sport to a termination. On Saturday a foot-race and some other sports came off, which wound up the holidays.
