(Condensed from Evening Star Telegrams) MELBOURNE. June 6th. The Duffy Ministry. have resigned. They asked for a dissolution, which was refused by the Governor. A new ministry has been formed consisting of;—Mr J. G. Francis, Premier? Mr E. Langton, Treasurer; W. Ramsay, Railways and Works ; D. Gillies, Lands ; A. Mackay, Mines ; E. Cohen, Customs; J. W. Stephens, Attorney-General; and H. R. Kerferd, Solicitor-General. The Hon. R S. Anderson will represent the Government in the Legislative Council.

Mr Duffy submitted a lengthy manifesto to the Governor in support of the dissolution, which way ably replied to by his Excellency. Mr Garrait’s complaint in re the impeachment of Mr Graham Berry, the late Treasurer, has been proved. Mr Garratt will ask for the evidence to be printed, and delicate family disclosures are likely to be involved. The mint operations were commenced in the presence of the Governor. Mr Authur Hunt, sop of a chemist at Brunswick, was killed while hunting. The new Ministry will probably be strongly opposed in seeking re-election. The subscription for the family of the late Rev. George Mackie; amounts L 1,788, the interest on which is to be enjoyed by the widow during her life, and the principal is then to go to her two daughters. The death warrants of Nichols and Lester, the Paramatta murderers, have been received by the sheriff. The former has admitted his guilt. There was a shocking occurrence at the execution of C6nu, the Bathurst murderer. The head was separated from the body.

ENGLAND.

Loudon, April 25. The Washington Cabinet maintains its indirect claims. Mr Disraeli intends to call the attention of the House of Commons to the whole subject. The Tichborne claimant was bailed on the 26tb, and his trial for perjury commences in November. Australian witnesses are required.

A long debate took place in the House of Commons on the Scotch Educational Bill, Lord Gordon’s amendment, declaring; that Bible instruction was essential was adopted against the Government by 216 to 209. The Carlists, under Don Carlos, were Completely defeated on the 4th at Pampeluna, losing 40 killed, and 730 wounded. Don Carlos escaped to France;

Despatches from Spain state that General Serrano is advancing on Navarre, where the Insurrection is principally seated. Bands of insurgents, wherever found, have been dispersed Horace Greeley has been nominated for the presidency of the United States. England has guaranteed the Canadian railway loan of £2,500,000. Count Armheim the German Minister for France, was cordially received bv M. Thiers.

The Carliat rising in Spain is assuming formidable proportions. ' 15,000 insurgents are in arms.

There has been a severe eruption of Mount Vesuvius, lasting ten days and spreading devastation and death around. Several villages were destroyed. The London International Exhibition has been opened. The Marquis of Lansdowne has been appointed under-secretary for war. The Ballot Bill has passed. Jacob Bright’s Woman’s Disabilities Bill was rejected. May 8. _ The defeat of Carlists was not decisive. Don Carlbs has not been captured. - The Carlists receive no support from Republicans. The eruption of Mount Vesuvius has terminated. Count Arnheim Las assured M. Theirs of the good intentions of Germany towards France. Canada will abolish the duties on tea and coffee on the 31st of July. The exports of Great Britian to April show an increase of four and a quarter millions.

Philadelphia telegrams state that Lord Granville agrees with the principle laid down to the extent of the reponaibility of neutrals, but he insists on the withdrawal of indirect claims from the American case. Secretary Fish considers the proposition unacceptable. A telegram from Aden reports that Dr Livingston is safe with the New York Herald's special Commissioner who reports a great hurricane at Zanzibar on 15th April, when 156 vessels and two millions worth of property were lost, and the town nearly destroyed.
