It was decided to call for applications for the position. Mr H. Manders was subsequently elected at £IOO per annum and to give legal advice free. Mr Wright was appointed surveyor for the town. A notice of motion concerning the desirability of securing the peninsula as a reserve for public purposes was tabled. At a subsequent meeting of the council the following tenders were received for cleaning streets, vacant allotments, etc.:—J. McDougall £75, H. Prince £65, S. G. Cook £3O.
