COOL CUCUMBER

You’ve all heard the popular saying, “As cool as a cucumber,” but exactly how cool is a cucumber? Well, according to an expert, it is 20 degrees cooler than its surroundings. In Nebraska recently, with the official air temperature 96 degrees Fahr. and the ground temperature 98 degrees, the temperature inside a cucumber of good size was found to be 78. This is a decidedly comfortable temperature, and indicates the cucumber by some process which man did not invent is well air-conditioned. However, the internal temperature would be cooler than air or soil temperatures.
