LAUGH IT OFF..

B: It may keep the wolf from the door, but I’ve noticed a lot of young ones hanging round. There was a queue outside a tobacconist’s, where a notice promised: “ Back at 2.15.” Presently a little man came along and pushed his way to the front. He was promptly pushed back. He shoved his way to the front again, and a burly man grabbed him and tossed him back. “ 0.K.,” said the little fellow. “ Then I won’t open the bloomin’ shop.” Maepherson read the following advertisement with interest: “Found on 13th inst., in the High street, a gentleman’s gold watch. Owner can have same by paying expenses of advertising on application to Aaron Levensky, 17' Catchem street,” Maepherson called at the address given. « Veil,” said Aaron, “ vat can I do for you?” “ I have called,” said Maepherson, “with respect to —er —my watch.” “Ah, you haf—eh? Veil, here vas the vateh, and dere vas two pounds to pay for advertisements.” With, a face three times its usual length, Maepherson paid the money and bore off the watch. When he had gone, Aaron took another gold (?) watch from a drawer and waited for the next customer. “Ah,” he mused, “ dis vatch-finding vas good pizness.” “ Mary, you have let the milk boil ■over again.” “ I can’t help it, ma’am.” “But didn’t you put out the gas?” “No need, ma’am, it went out of its own accord.” One hears a great deal about the absent-minded professors, but none more absent-minded than the dentist who said soothingly as he applied the pliers to his automobile: “Now, this is going'to hurt just a little.”
