GOLDEN WEDDING

Mr and Mrs T. W. Buxton An event of interest was celebrated recently in Queenstown when Mr and Mrs T. W. Buxton, formerly of Invercargill and Timaru, celebrated their golden wedding. They entertained a large number of friends and relations at a dinner party followed: by a musical evening at the home of their Son, Mr Gordon Buxton, Melbourne street. The dining room and Ibunge were decorated with golden ehfysanthemums and autumn foliage.' A notable incident was that the bridesmaid of the marriage 50 years ago, now Mrs Sherborne of Ashburton, and the best man, Mr S. Buxton of Thornbury, were among those present who had attended the wedding. Mr and Mrs Buxton have three surviving members of their family, Miss Lilias Buxton and Mr Gordon, Buxton, both of Queenstown, and Mr Ray Buxton, of Wanganui. Mrs Buxton’s brother, Mr James Aitken, who is aged 86, was chairman and delighted those present with several songs. Many letters and telegrams were received, among them being one from the Governor-General, Sir Bernard Freyberg, and one from the Prime Minister, Mr Fraser.
