MOTOR LICENCES Tin* attention of all motor drivers in Lake County is drawn to the fact that the new licences are now obtainable. As in the case of last year, all persons requiring licences must apply, in person, to the licensing authority or agent,. Last year was the first occasion upon which the Transport Department received a copy of the actual licence issued, and, therefore, the Department has compiled a register of all licencees which will be rigidly checked against the details entered on the current year’s licences. All persons who have reached the age of 70 years must produce a medical certificate as to their physical fitness to drive. It will assist in the issue of a new licence if the 1040-47 licence is produced on application. Last year the council provided substantial covers to preserve the licence form. These should be retained as issues for this year will only apply to new applicants. Any driver who has allowed a licence to lapse for a period above 12 months must undergo a re-test. As the traffic inspector is not resident in the county appointments must be made with the county <clerk or a duly authorised agent.

ROTARY At the weekly meeting of the Queenstown Rotary Club, Captain G. H. Herbert gave a talk on the subject “Coastal Navigation.” The speaker described the hazards of shipping on the New Zealand coast and he referred to the Wanganella tragedy. He was accorded a hearty vote of thanks.
