THE KAIPARA AND WAITEMATA ECHO With which is incorporated "The Kaipara Advertiser & Waitemata Chronicle." Helensville, Thursday, Dec. 1, 1921. LOCAL AND GENERAL

A letter has been received by the clerk of the Helensville Town Board from the General Manager of Railways to the effect that through representations made by the Board a lamp has been placed at the Helensville South station, and arrangements made to have the lamp lit as

required

The Anglican Bishop of Auckland, accompanied by Mrs Averill, will arrive in Helensville by motor on Friday morning (to-morrow) on an official visit, and will be the guests of Rev. and Mrs Steele. At St. Matthew's Church the same evening, at 7.30, the Bishop will hold a confirmation service.

At the meeting of Helensville Domain Board on Monday evening, the chairman referred to an arlicle which had appeared in the last issue of the ECHO. He said the receipts from the greens did not exceed 5s in the £ on the cost of upkeep. The clerk added that the only paying proposition was the private baths.

A remarkably fine series of illustrations is featured in this week's issue of the Sporting and Dramatic Review. Sporting events pictorially treated are the Takapuna Jockey Club's spring meeting, the Ashurst-Pohangia R.C.s annual rac ing, Otahuhu Trotting Club's meeting, and the Horowhenua racing at Levin ; while boxing and golf, tennis and baseball are represented in photographs of foremost players in their respective games. Social and theatrical happenings of worldwide interest are also included.

There was very little business to transact at Monday's meeting of the Helensville Domain Board. The chairman said visitors remarked on the nice appearance of the grounds, and a doctor and his wife had praised the conduct and cleanliness of the baths. It had been suggested that one of the lads from Home might be got through the probation officer to assist with the gardening, etc. The Domain at present had a small balance to credit. Wages, etc., absorbed about £20 per week. Lease of land and sale of hay would take place on 12th Dec. The erection of the soldiers' memorial would be commenced this week; when finished it would.be covered until later unveiled by the Governor-General or the Prime Minister.
