[OWN CORRESPONDENT] A very pleasant evening was spent in the Hall on January 3, when friends of Sergt. C. (Pat) Gardner took the opportunity -of bidding him farewell before his return to camp. Owing to the" night being dark and stormy, many people were unable to go who would otherwise have been present, but those who braved the elements were well rewarded for their bravery. Sergt. Gardner was presented with a case of - razors, as a small token of esteem from his Makarau friends. Although his home is at Glorit~ still a great deal of his time has been spent in this district, where he has been ever ready to take part in any social functions, sports, etc. He has been amongst us from childhood, and all will join in wishing him God-speed and a quick and safe return from . the front.
