THE Kaipara Advertiser, AND WAITEMATA CHRONICLE. WEDNESDAY, NOV. 5, 1913. THE TELEPHONE.

The letter before the Town Board on Saturday from tho Telegraph Department, to the effect that the (question of affordiDg additional telephone between Auckland and Heleusville, isnoyr under consideration, is a tacit admission as to the genuine nature of complaints made in regard to the inefficiency of the service. But wo think the Town Board, seeing that there is no Chamber of Commerce in the district to take up such questions, should have collected some data, of which there is plenty available, to show the necessity for the Department treating the question us one of urgency. It is substantially manifest that local people are -unfairly handicapped and penalised iv regard to their telephone business with the city, aud such a condition of affairs should uot be allowed to continue without vigorous protests for the desired improvement. And Ilelensville's application for through, wires to the city cannot fairly be considered only on the business done, as there is the lost business also to bring into the question ; people wait about for half a day and then come to the conclusion that it is unwise and would only involve further loss to wait longer. We think tho Town Board has r:ot gone far enough with the matter, and tliyt an appeal should be made to the Hon. Minister to bring about the improvement di.-sired.
