TOWN BOARD

The Town Board met on Saturday ; a present Messrs Jas. McLeod (chaii> ~. man), A. Becroft, Jas. Stewart, Jas. I, Hand and J. A. Wilson. >t Auckland lias. Co. enquired what quantity of tar the Board required for a street works. The price had been in« ,t creased 2d per gallon.—The Board I considered that its money was wanted ~ for both roads and footpaths, and it »t was a difficult matter to say how q much tar could be procured for foot* •- paths. Eventually it was decided to s ascertain within a month what tar > would be required. s Jas. Stewart applied for building d permits for 7 cottages on Awaroaroad. —The Chairman objected'to the plan .- put before the Board and said that o proper plans should be supplied. The b. Board did not want to obstruct o buildings but they must have plans.— Mr Becroft said the Board should c have plans equal to what they had c been supplied with before.—A plan to t. be produced for Mr Becroft's approval; l* Pukekohe Borough Council enquire d ed what subsidy the Board received > fiom the County Council for upkeep c of roads in the town district. —Clerk d to reply that the Board received no n assistance from the Council. The Executive of the North Aucka land Court asked the Board to contribute to the expense in connection iv tith the Court at Auckland Exhibition. >- —The Chairman said it was a worthy o cause, but the Board was hard up. 0 —It was decided to vote £5 on the it motion of Mr Stewart, seconded by ). the Chairman. it The Waitemata County Engineer d (,G. A. Jackson; wrote stating that >, prior to the Town Board taking over >. portion of Mr John Hand's land the r Council had made an agreement for purchase of metal contained thereon. 1 This stone was bow the property of. ~ the Board lut the Council desired to) v acquire it. The Council understood ~ that the Board desired the present c road through Mr Hand's property aa 1 far as Mangakura creek, made suit* . able for carting in consideration of entering into an agreement to sell the t metal to the Council on the same terms, 1 as it cost to obtain it and granting tb,e s Council the right to enter upon 4<he land, quarry and remove the stone. 9 —The Chairman said 'that the letter t was in accord with the arrangements he had been authorised to make on behaJf of the Board. s An application by Kaipara Shipping - Co. to place a pipe underneath the road . from Mr D. Stewart's paddock to the , r new tank in railway street was granted* ' The Publio Library. The Secretary of the Public Library asked the Board to state definitely , what steps would be taken in regard to upkeep of same in the event of it being handed over. [ The Chairman said he had made enquiries and most of the people who were helping at the present time were r prepared to assist the Board in the management; and he mentioned several who would attend as librarians. ( Mr iStewart said the point was what the Board would do in regard to finance. The Chairman said the Boajd could I go on with voluntary assistance until they could appoint a Caretaker. Mr Becroft said the 3oard would have no guarantee with voluntary labor. The Uhairman said if they were ».ofc prepared to trust the Board the Trustees would have to keep control as at present. The Board was prepared to carry the library on under the pre>: sent volunteer system until they could:, make better arrangements. HenaovedT that a reply be sent to thisi-effect. Mr Hand seconded. Mr Stewart moved an amendment deferring the matter for six months. ' —Mr Becroft seconded. On a vote being taken the motion was earned.
