A BOXING EXHIBITION.
[From to-day's Argus.] The boxing match for £lO a-side (to fight to a finish) between Laurie and O'Loughlin drew an uncommonly full house at the Volunteer Hall on Saturday evening, there being 5 to 1 present that witnessed the kuockingout match between Matthews and O'Loughlin. A good many attended from Brunnerton. Laurie led off as if he intended to settle the contest in the first round, but as he. ran several times against O'Loughlin's fists and received other sharp reminders that he could not have it all his own way, he became a little more careful. But at the beginning of each round Laurie forced the fighting in the same way. He did not strike one as being much of a scientific boxer. All through he relied upon rushes and desperate "slogging," O'Loughlin generally being more on the defensive. Beyond the marked advantage in strength, stature, and reach possessed by Laurie, which invariably tell unless opposed to a finished hand at the business, O'LoughUnheld his own very fairly, knocking down Laurie several times, besides occasionally countering him in the face very heavily. O'Loughlin went down a good many times before the hard fighting of his opponent, but there could not be said to be a knock-down blow given during the three rounds the match lasted. Both were considerably blown by their exertions, without much perceptible advantage on either side, until O'Loughlin received a stinging blow close to the left temple, which seemed to dizzy him, and as he did not come to time Laurie was declared the winner. Both men received some severe blows, but the results were not serious. Laurie left in the Murray on Saturday night for Westport, where he intends, if possible, to make a match with O'Neill, who fought Matth.fi.ws. '
