[REUTERS TELEGRAMS.] By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. CRICKET. AUSTRALIANS Y. GENTLEMEN OF ENGLAND. (Received June 19, 1.30 a.m.) London, June 17. The cricket match Australians v. Gentlemen of England commenced at Kensington Oval to-day. The weather was cold and inclement, but the attendance of the public was good. The following are the names of the Gentlemen players ;—The Hon, M. B. Hawken, G. M. Kemp, C. Lopin, J. A. xiirner, W. M. Grace, C. A. Horner, F. M. Lucks, W. 11. Patterson, W. \Y. Read, \V. E. Roller, A. F. Kemp. The Home team went in first, and lenmined at the wickets all day, and
nearly all making double figures. Grace made a splendid innings for 148, during which he only gave one chance. When the stumps were drawn at the conclusion of the day’s play, the Gentlemen had scored 350, with the loss of only five wickets. The following are the detailed scores:— Grace, caught... ... 148 Patterson, bowled ... 44 Lucas, bowled 8 Read, caught 34 Hawken, bowled ... 56 Roller not out ... 33 Kemp, not out ... 15 Sundries ... ... 11 Five wickets down for 350 (Received June 19, 2 p.m.) June 18. In the cricket match, Australians versus Gentlemen of England, the latter in their first innings scored 471, all out.
