Mary Ann Tichborne, alias Orton, wife of Roger Tichborne, alias Orton, was recently fined five shillings for not sending her daughter to school. There are men employed as legal copyists in Berlin, who a few years since owned their own carriages. The want of work is felt throughout Germany. A Danish sailor, in February last, was in Washington building a boat 18J feet long, in which he proposes to sail round the world from Boston next summer. A life-buoy was thrown to him and the ship at once brought round, but although the life-buoy was seen, no trace of the poor fellow could be found. Bis name was George Lennie, aged 37,’ and he was a native of Glasgow.” ft R B - Ea id that an investigation has been going on as to the feasibility of constructing a harbor at Limasol, Cyprus. This can only be done by the erection of an isolated breakwater running nearly parallel to the shore in a depth of water varying from 40 to 50 feet, and of a length of about three-quarters of a mile. The construction of a breakwater in such a depth of water would be a very costly affair. According to a design made by Mr Hamilton Fulton, the engineer, the outlay fcr a breakwater at Limasol, with its accessories, would amount to as d much as L 1,000,000. The existence of such a breakwater, it is to be feared, would cause a., accumulation of silt and mud, and no reasonable quantity of dredging could give any practicable or permanent increase of depth over a sufficient area, whereas at Famagosta an adequate amount of harbor and de k accommodation could be provided, according to Mr b niton’s estimate, for L500.C00.
