Arterial Roads.
The Bill dealing with arterial roads will be one of tbe matters to be considered by Parliament next see sion. A Bill has born nngtily drafted, but before submission tn Parliament it will be circulate! amongst local bodies. It is anticipated that the Bill wil provide for the creation of controlling authorities vested with power to deal with arterial roads over wide di-t ic s. Tbe controlling authority will lay down line- of operation, and provide specific i t i>.ns for 't-adways to bs constructed, but in some C'sss th, actual work may b- left, to local bodies if they have adequate facilities The crux ot the queaiion, bonever, is not control, bu.. finance. Tne arranging of flounce will be the 'ark of the controlling authority. Lou, money will be ti ed for new con struotiou and funds for maiurensnoi, payment of interest, and stt'king fund will probably be provided by kvks oh local bodies, supplemented by Government grunts. Soma special taxotiin, including a tyre tux, may be earmarked tor the purpose of these grants.
