EUCHRE EVENING. t I, The fortnightly euchre and dance evening was held in the Pururu Hall on July 19th. Owing to unfavourable weather conditions only five tables of players participated. The prizes were won by Miss J. Stretch and Mr. F. Stiller, while consolation "honours" went to Miss O'Hagan and Mr. J. Warriner. Supper was served by the hostesses and dancing was enjoyed till midnight, the music being supplied by Mr. Ferry.

Farewell Evening

A farewell evening was held in the hall for Mr. and Mrs, Murray, when a good attendance was present, the guests being entertained with cards and dancing. After supper, Mr. F. Brown, senr., after a very able speech, called on Mrs. Malcolmson, as the first woman on the Pururu settlement, to present Mr. and Mrs. Murray with a clock. Mr. Murray suitably replied, Mrs. Brown, on behalf of the W.D., then presented Mrs. Murray with a set of jugs. She also presented a small token to Miss O'Hagan, a junior member who is also leaving the district. Dancing continued until midnight, when the party closed with the singing of "Auld Lang Syne." Dance. The local branch of the Labour Union held a dance in the Pururu Hall on Saturday. Owing to the extreme weather conditions attendance was poor, but those present enjoyed dancing until midnight. Music was supplied by Mr. Ferry. W.D.F.U.

The Pururu branch of the W.D. F.U. held their usual meeting in the hall on Thursday, Mrs. Brown presiding. The first of the lectures on famous women was read by Mrs. Coldstream, the subject being Dorothy Banfield, novelist. The competition for the afternoon was won by Mrs. Murray. Hostesses were Mrs. Stretch and Miss O'Hagan.
