MANGAPEHI NOTES
At the general meeting of the Mangapehi St. John Ambulance Association, held in the supper room of the Mangapehi Hall on Tuesday evening, July 25th, twenty-eight members assembled to discuss and finalise arrangements- for the forthcoming ball. '• Afterwards members of the Association and their friends to the number of about eighty, gathered in the main hall for a social evening in honour of Mr. and Mrs. Hughes,' who were presented with a handsome vase from the First Aid students, in appreciation of their valuable services.
The programme of dancing, community singing, a burlesque entitled "This Age of Speed," a humorous recitation, "The Inventor's Wife," tap dancing parlour games and a nost realistic shadow show, "The Operation," was very much enjoyed. A most appetising buffet supper was provided by the lady members of St. John, and after the last waltz all joined hands in the hearty rendering of Auld Lang Syne. At the weekly bridge party of the Thirteen Club last Friday evening, Mr. Wolfe secured the greatest number of points for the evening's play, and Mr. Buck, havin the highest score for a period of four consecutive evenings, won the aggregate prize.
The Mangapehi branch of the Plunket Society held a flag 500 evening in the supper room of the Mangapehi Hall on Saturday, 29th July. Table No. 3 had the greatest number of flags at the conclusion <sf the evening's play, the winners being Mrs. Aukett, Mr. Hayes Mr. Buck, and Mr. W. Jensen. The prize for the holder of the travelling flag was won by Mr. G. Binnie. Members' of the Waimiha . Golf Club motored to Kopaki yesterday when a return match was played against the Wharehunga Club. The day, being fine and sunny, was a welcome change from the prevailing cold weather, but a chilly breeze sprang up during the latter part of the afternoon, and afternoon tea at Mr. and Mrs. J. Waghorn's was greatly appreciated. When all the ' players had come in Mr. J. D. Jones, on behalf of the visitors, thanked ttie members of the Wharehunga Club for a very enjoyable day's play and hoped that the Waimaha Club would be able to reverse the day's results in a match .next season. Mr. J. Waghorn suitably replied on behalf of the home team.
