LOAN DISCUSSIONS

MR. NASH'S EFFORTS.

QUESTION BY MR. HAMILTON.

In an urgent question addressed to the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage) in the House of Representatives yesterday afternoon, the Leader of the Opposition (the Hon. A. Hamilton) asked why, seeing that Parliament was in session, he did not make a statement in the House on Friday last, so that members could have had it first hand outlining the conclusion of the negotiations in London by the Minister of Finance and giving all possible details, "as the public still seems in doubt on the real meaning and effects of the agreement," instead of allowing members to read a partial statement in Friday evening's neWspapei's. When did the Prime Minister propose to give the House an opportunity to discuss this important subject? Mr. Hamilton added. The Prime Minister said that the action taken by the Government was strictly in line with arrangements made between Mr. Nash and the British Ministers, under which an account of the proposals was to be published simultaneously in New Zealand and Britain. "We have lived up to that to the letter," said Mr. Savage, who. added that the Leader of the L Opposition would have any amount of opportunity to discuss details when the Budget came down, and he would not have have very long to wait. "I may say," added Mr. Savage, "that you have been discussing this already, although you do not know the details."
