Bringing an idea close to reality, the Pungarehu (Taranaki) school committee yesterday promised to finance the purchase of furnishings and equipment for a four-roomed cottage to be built in the school grounds for the purpose of giving Maori girls practical training in domestic duties. Part of the cost of the cottage, it is hoped, will be provided by the Native Trust Board, which is to be approached on the subject by representatives of the race. Should the Maoris agree to find a share it is understood the Taranaki Education Board will ask the department for a grant for the balance. It was at Pungarehu that the plan was first advanced more than a year ago, and since then it has received the endorsement of the education board and persons interested in the welfare of the native race.
