MOTORING STATISTICS

The 13th edition of the home market analysis, prepared by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders of London, has just been published. This book is the most complete survey of the motor markets of the United Kingdom, and gives particulars of the classes of motor vehicles in use in the various licensing districts, together with a wealth of other details.

An estimate is given in the book that the probable number of private cars in Great Britain by September 30, 1939, will be 2,134,000, an increase of 150,000 over 1938. The total number of mechanically propelled road vehicles in use, it is claimed, will amount to more than 3,100,000. Another interesting item, which has been obtained from carefully complied statistics, is that the average life of a private car in Great Britain is 8.22 years.
