A letter was received from the Te Awamutu branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union at the monthly meeting of the Waipa County Council, requesting an expression of opinion in regard to the disqualification of defaulting ratepayers for local body election purposes. It was the opinion of the Council that such persons should be disqualified from the local body ballot, but should be allowed to participate in loan polls in view of the latter involving a mortgage on the land.
