"House painters have not been so busy for years," said one manager of a large / painting and decorating firm in Wellington the other day. "As a rule outside painting work is inclined to taper off a little at this time of the year because of the weather, but this year almost every good tradesman in the city is in full harness. There is no doubt that people ar" painting up their places in view of Centennial year. How we know is from the nature of some of the properties that are being cleaned up and painted. In some cases they are pretty old places which the owner has long ceased to think of in terms of paint. Possibly all this talk of accommodation shortage during the exhibition period may also be a factor."
