RANGITOTO NEWS

FAREWELL EVENING. A social evening was held in the Pururu Hall to farewell two of the district's most popular families— Mr. and Mrs. Pittams and Mr. and Mrs. Waugh. Besides dancing and games for the children, the guests were entertained with two Scotch songs by Mr. Reid and a recitation by Mr. Remnant During the evening. Mrs. Waugh was presented with a crystal salad service, and Mrs. Pittams with a pair of crystal vases. Supper was provided by the local ladies, and music by Messrs. Stretch and Ferry with extras by Mr. and Mrs. Pittams.

Dance. A dance was held recently at Pururu in aid of the hall fund. Only a fair attendance of dancers was present. A spot waltz was won by Mr. Priest and Mrs. Waugh. Music was supplied by Mr. Ferry. W.D.F.U. Notes. An afternoon was held in Mrs. Brown's residence to farewell Mesdames Waugh and Pittams. Mrs. Waugh was presented with an autograph book and fountain pen, and Mrs. Pittams received a handsome piece of china. A competition was won by Mrs. Parsons, and singing by the ladies followed, Mrs. Pittams accompanying. Afternoon tea was served and the guests of honour departed with the best wishes of the rest of the branch. j

Euchre and Dance,

The fortnightly euchre and dance evening was held in the local hall. A good attendance was present, five tables taking part. The prizes were won by Mrs. Sittlington and Mr. Ferry. The ladies' consolation prize went to Miss O'Hagan and Messrs. Brown and Priest shared the gentlemen's prize.

W.D.F.U. Meeting

The usual meeting of the Pururu branch was held on the 13th, Mrs. Brown presiding. Mrs. Stretch was elected vice-president. In view of the lack of members it was decided to hold a dance instead of the usual luncheon and afternoon entertainment as a means of celebrating the W.D.F.U. birthday. Hostesses for the day were Mrs. Brown and Mrs. Malcolmson.
