RECRUITING CAMPAIGN
APPEAL TO EMPLOYERS. ACTION OF MAYOR. In order to provide every possible facility to enable young men to undergo military training, the following letter has been circulated amongst the employers of Te Kuiti by the Mayor, Mr. H. T. Morton:—
"Dear Citizen. —As a pre-requisite to the success of the recruiting campaign to be launched in Te Kuiti next week, it is essential to obtain the individual undertaking of each employer to allow any eligible employee who wishes to join the Territorials full facilities for attending camps and otherwise fulfilling his military obligations.
"Briefly, these annual obligations are: (a) 6 days service camp; (b) 6 days out of camp training; (c) usual weekly night parades and weekend parades. Pay and allowances at the rate of 12s per day are paid to the Territorial soldier by the Government and there is no obligation on the part of the employer to pay the employee these periods. "It will be appreciated by all that any approach to the' prospective recruit can only be successful if the employer's prior consent to the granting of full facilities to the recruit is on record.
"It will be necessary to stress the importance of seeing that the Te Kuiti quota of 100 active Territorial trainees is quickly recruited and you are earnestly invited to co-operate by signifying your consent to the granting of the facilities as outlined above. A roll of all employers granting full facilities to their employees is in course of preparation. This roll will be produced in poster form and displayed in a prominent position in the town. "Your immediate consideration of this- matter is requetsed and your written consent to the proposal is eagerly awaited.
