Despite the fact that eight years have passed since the Hawke's Bay earthquake, there is still marked evidence of the visitation in the Napier and Parke Island cemeteries. Damaged headstones and tablets, many of them severely broken or cracked, are still lying where the earthquake threw them, although in some instances efforts have been made to remedy some of the chaos. There are many stones which could be repaired easily and without a great deal of expense.
