Mrs. Brown’s coloured cook went home every night the moment she had washed the dinner dishes, and often forgot to come back to prepare breakfast the next morning. “Sora,” said Mrs. Brown one day, “every time you fail to come and get breakfast I shall take off a quarter from your wages.” Sara silently consented, and the next few mornings she did not appear until 10 o’clock. “Look here, Sara,” complained Mrs. Brown, “I had to fix breakfast again this morning!” “Well,” returned Sara, indignantly, “ain’t Ah payin’ you foh it?”
