LIME INDUSTRY

INVESTIGATION COMMITTEE. TO SIT IN TE KUITI. j “I am certain that there is room for expansion in the use of lime in the Auckland Province, and on many soils its increased application would show very beneficial results,” said Mr. G. A. Holmes, chairman of the Government’s lime investigation committee, in an interview.

In the course of its field investiga;tions throughout the Dominion, the committee is now hearing representations in the Auckland district. The committee comprises Mr. Holmes, as chairman, and Messrs. N. E. Dalmer, J.’Barron, F. Milne, W. Horrobin, and J. J. Scott. Arriving in the Auckland Province on Thursday night from Hawke’s Bay, the committee heard representations from farmers in the Rotorua, Matamata and Bay of Plenty districts, visiting the Thames area and inspecting the lime works at Kopu and Miranda before reaching Auckland on Saturday night. i The committee was interviewed by representatives of the Kaipara subprovincial district of the Farmers’ Union, and of several lime producing companies.

Mr. Holmes said the members would leave later for Warkwoi'th, Wellsford and Waikiekie and, after visiting other lime works in North Auckland, it was proposed to return to Auckland on Thursday. There would be a sitting of the committee at Hamilton on Friday and at Te Kuiti on Saturday. ;
