PIO PIO NOTES

PERSONAL ITEMS. Mr. .and Mrs. H. Dewsnap are visiting Wellington for a few days. Mrs. B. H. Howes is at present staying in Auckland. Miss Joyce McLean has taken up a clerical position in Te Kuiti. Mr. and Mrs. W. Anscombe, who have been visiting Mrs. H. J. Andrews, have left for Pahiatua. .Miss Marion Marks, the dental nurse stationed at Pio Pio, has received notice of temporary transfer to Hawera. Miss Marks has been at the Pio Pio Clinic since February, 1938. Miss Marks leaves to commence work in Hawera to-morrow. In the

meantime, the Pio Pio Clinic,-whose revision list is well up to date, will be temporarily closed. On Friday last Mr. and Mrs. J. Smythe gave a "house-warming." Unfortunately, owing to the state of the roads, the "warming" had to be transferred from their new residence to the Town Hall. However, a very enjoyable evening was spent despite ihe fact that he electric power failed. The evening proceeded with the help of candles. Basketball Match. A basketball match was played on Saturday, June 24, between Mokauiti and Pio Pio High School teams. The match resulted in a win for Pio Pio by 26 goals to 7. Miss M. Casey was the referee. The teams were: —

Morris, S. Fahey, J. Winthrop, P. Buckman, M. Smith, B. Browne. Emergency, M. Brickland. W.D.F.U. Gardening Circle. The June meeting of the GardeningCircle of the W.D.F.U. was held in the Rest Room on June 22. Mrs. R. Tebutt presided over a good attendance of members. The recently improved grounds were planted with many nice shrubs, and these should add greatly to the appearance of the Rest Room. During the afternoon tea many gardening hints were exchanged, and a very pleasant hour was spent.
