RECRUITING CAMPAIGN. TRAINING CENTRE TO BE FORMED There was a gathering of 120 people at Te Anga Hall on Tuesday evening last, on the occasion of a meeting convened for recruiting. Major Mackersey addressed the meeting, supported by Lieutenant E. J. Tonge and Sergeant Musgrave. Proceedings were enthusiastically followed and 27 enlistments recorded. As 30 are required for a training centre, it is certain that one will be established at Te Anga, for a number were unavoidably away. At a subsequent meeting the mailer of compulsory training was discussed, and the following resolution, to be sent to the Rt. Hon the Prime Minister, was moved by Mr. E. A. Moseley, seconded by Mr. P. C. Rose and carried unanimously:-—• “That this meeting of 120 residents of the Kawhia South district respectfully request the Government to urgently consider the immediate introduction of conscription as the only practicable solution for the training of an adequate Territorial army for the defence of the Dominion and Empire.” Mr. Moseley pointed out that this was the only fair and logical method of preparing to do our part to meet the dangerous international situation. A large muster of returned soldiers were present. The ladies provided supper and the young folk enjoyed a little music and dancing before departing. Young Farmers. Mr. D. A. Burt, president, and Mr. Hugh Wright, chairman, presided over a good attendance of the Te Anga Young Farmers’ Club on Wednesday. The report of the Auckland Provincial Council was discussed and the suggestion adopted that last season’s surplus of £43 be funded for the establishment of a Provincial Club reference library. The president suggested a potato growing competition giving a prize for the best crop from 281bs of seed. This was carried. It was decided that the Te Anga Club arrange for a court at the Te Kuiti Winter Show next year. Arrangements were made for playing the Otorohanga Club at Rugby at Marakopa during July. This was subject to confirmation.
