Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Harris left on Friday to spend a holiday in Tauranga. •- Mr. R. Horsfall, of Tauranga, is spending a holiday in Te Kuiti. Mr. H. Shepherd was a week-end visitor to Auckland. Mr. J. Verran, of Kaikohe, is spending a few days in Te Kuiti. Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Martin, Mokau, have returned from a visit to their son, Mr. H. Martin, Arapae. Mr. L. E. A. Hayward, the Hamilton parachutist, who made descents at a recent Te Kuiti Aero Club’s pageant, was drowned on Saturday when he landed in the Manukau harbour when making a jump from the Mangere aerodrome on Sunday. The Hon. P. Fraser, Minister of Education and Health, accompanied by Mrs. Fraser and his private secretary, Mr. P. J. Smith, paid an official visit to Taumarunui on Thursday and opened the new primary school building. Mr. Denis E. Egan, a popular drover of Otorohanga, was the recipient of a framed photograph of himself and his horse De Valera, taken whilst the combination were winning the now famous Drovers' Cup at the recent picnic races at Otorohanga. The presentation was made by Mr. R. Morrissy, auctioneer, at the Otorohanga saleyards, and was loudly applauded.
On Friday last Mr. and Mrs. L. Boswell entertained a number of children and friends at a party in the Friendly Societies’ Hall, the occasion being the second birthday of their youngest daughter, Colleen. The children did justice to the tasty tea provided, and then the birthday cake Was cut, the candles first being lighted by Colleen’s nurse and the cake cut by her godmother. All then spent a happy three hours in dancing, singing and games, Mr. Ray Revell providing the music. Among the children present were: Marie Cairns, Jacqueline Reed, Beverley Rogers, Barbara Cameron, Audrey Dobson, Audrey King, Margaret Isaac, Myra Lee, Huia Ballantine, Betty Davies, Betty Cooke, Norma King, Joyce Rogers, Pat Cooke, Valerie Dobson, Nbla Cotter, Lucy Gordon, Marie McQuilkin, Shirley Wilson, Dorothy Reardon, Jocelyn Wilson, Marjorie Boswell, Noeline Boswell, Betty Boswell, and Colleen Boswell. From eight o’clock till the early hours, the employees of Mr. Boswell and a number of friends were entertained. The music for dancing was supplied by Messrs. Jack Hetet, B. Duncan and R. Revell. Mrs. Ford played several extras, which. were greatly enjoyed. The Monte Carlo was won by Mrs. Courtney and Mr. Smith, the spot waltz by Mrs. Ford and Mr. Boswell, and the statue log cabin by Mrs. Boswell and Mr. Cotter. Among the numerous beautiful gifts Colleen received a large doll’s pram and doll from her father’s employees.
