AMATEUR CYCLE CLUB

A good field turned out on Saturday for the Club’s 24-mile race for a trophy presented to the club by Mr. Hobson. Mr. Stewart also presented a gold medal for the fastest, time. The two scratch men, Irvine and Grainger, gained very little on the middle and limit riders on the first half of the journey, but on the return trip to town the scratch men set a terrific pace which they held till the leaders were caught at Ormsby’s. The sprint was very thrilling with the boys working for position at the school. Due to the splendid work of the handicappers the riders bunched and it looked like anyone’s race until Irvine and Grainger gave a burst of speed to outsprint the rest of the field, Irvine winning by half a wheel from Grainger, with L. Lee third.

G. Irvine, (scr.), 65m 20s . . 1 W. Grainger (scr.), 65m. 20 1-5 secs 2 L. Lee (2m.), 68 20 2-5 secs. 3
