BEEF IN REQUEST
VALUES AT FRANKTON. LIGHT ENTRY OF FAT PIGS. Beef was again in keen request at the Frankton stock sale yesterday, when an all-round improvement in quality was a stimulus to competition. A good average.supply was forward, but nevertheless the market was fully firm, with occasional price changes in vendors’ favour. Yesterday’s top price for bullocks was £l4, the highest price realised for this class at the yards for some months and 10s better than last week’s best quotation.
There was again a full entry of fat sheep and values over the opening sales showed no noticeable alteration. The entry of fat pigs was the lightest seen this season and prices consequently showed a sharp upward tendency. Light porkers improved by as much as 7s per head. No heavy prime baconers were on offer.
Quotations: Heavy prime steers £l3 16s 6d to £l4; light £9 10s to £lO 15s; small £8 7s to £9 5; prime cows and heifers £7 15s to £8 17s; medium £6 7s to £7 10s; light £5 to £6 ss; small and killable £3 7s to £4 15s. Baconers G2s to 70s; porkers 35s to 60s.
