RUGBY FOOTBALL
LAST SATURDAY’S GATE
NEARLY RECORD FOR KING COUNTRY.
Last Saturday’s gate for the rep. matches between Maniapoto and Otorohanga teams was nearly a record for Sub-Union matches in the King Country. Just on £4O was taken, and this has only been exceeded on one occasion in the whole King Country area in Sub-Union fixtures, this being at Ohura on their Winter Show Day. Whether Te Kuiti could set a new record for Sub-Union matches on Saturday week, when the Winter Show is being held, must remain unanswered, for a King Country match is set down for that occasion.
Last Saturday’s figure is the more remarkable in that matches with Otorohanga have not in the past drawn very large crowds. The interest has of course been engendered by the excellent Senior A competition running - this year, ordinary Saturday gates having exceeded some of the previous years’ rep. gates. Next Saturday two of the heaviest teams in the competition meet on Rugby Park, Te Kuiti and West Coast.
The referees’ draw for Saturday is as follows:
Senior “A.” —Pio Pio v. United at Pio Pio, 3 p.m., E. Walker; Mahoenui v. Waitete at Mahoenui, 3 p.m., J. Wilson; Te Kuiti v. West Coast at Te Kuiti, No. 1, 2.45 p.m., J. Hebden.
Senior “B.”—Te Kuiti v. Aria at Aria, 3 p.m., W. Searancke; Pio Pio v. Hangatiki at Pio Pio, 1.30 p.m., R. Arneil.
Juniors. —Te Kuiti v. High School at Te Kuiti, No. 1, 1.30 p.m., W. Eketone; Aria v. United at Aria, 1.30 p.m., H. Hall; West Coast v. Waitete at Te Kuiit, No. 2,2 p.m., A. Thorburn.
Emergency referees—Parlane, G Cameron, J. Evans, K. Taitoko.
