In the election of a member for the West Ward of the Auckland Education Board, Mr. W. I. Bowyer, of Otorohanga, was re-elected, defeating Mr. J. Patterson, of Pukekohe, by 478 votes to 269.
The death ocurred at Waitara on Wednesday night of Mrs. Budden, relict of the late Benjamin Budden, one of the pioneer settlers in the Honikiwi (Otorohanga) district, at the age of 80 years.
Mr. J. H. Lynskey, aftei 45 years' association with Rugby football, first as a player and later as a famous coach and administrator, has retired from active participation in the affairs of the game owing to ill-health. A banquet, organised by the King Country Rugby Union, was held in his honour at Taumarunui on Thursday night when he was presented with a wallet and a cheque for £SO, and many sincere tributes were paid to him for his services to the game of Rugby.
