In a letter conveying his resignation to the British Prime Minister, which was made public along with the latter's reply, Viscount Swinton speaks of his long realisation of the political difficulty of Minister in charge of a great spending Department being in the House of Lords, and of his requests, more than once renewed, to Mr. Chamberlain to say whether in these circumstances, he felt he ought to make a change.

At least 24 w<"-e killed and 10 injured in a fire, due to an explosion in a basement kttchen, which destroyed a five-storey brick frame hotel in Georgia, U.S.A. Flam Q .s broke out while 50 guests were asleep and spread rapidly. Dense smoke made impossible the attempts of many to escape.

A world conference on economic problems, including access to raw materials involving the colonial question is expected to follow the trade treaty negotiations between Britain and America. It is believed the United States is initiating the movement strongly supported by Britain.

Italian nev/spapers remind Herr Hitler that Italy has done her share for the Fascist cause hi Spain. They publish lists showing that 67 Italian officers were killed and 197 were wounded in Spain between March 9 and April 30. In the same period 544 legionnaires were killed and 2219 were wounded.

Arising out of the Rodney launch disaster on Sydney Harbour on February 13, when 19 lives were lost as the result of the vessel's capsizing,the Marine Court has suspended for three years the certificate of the master, Henry Rosman.
