MANGAPEHI

The annual meeting of parishioners of the Mangapehi branch of St. Luke’s Anglican Church took place after the evening service on Sunday, May Bth, a nice supper by a cheery fire being served by the committee before business was proceeded with. The Rev. E. W. Hancock presided. After the minutes of the last annual meeting had been dealt with, the secretary presented a very satisfactory balance sheet to 31st March, which was very favourably commented upon by the Vicar, The following were then elected as officers for the coming year:—Secretary, Mr. P. C. Jones; committee, Mrs. W. M. Buck, Messrs. J. McEwan, W. M. Buck, C. Hobern, A. Nisbet; Vicar’s warden, Mr. W. M. Buck; people’s warden, Mr. J. McEwan. Mr. W. M. Buck was also appointed as the Mangapehi representative on St. Luke’s Vestry, Te Kuiti. Dance. A dance and “500” tournament, organised by the United Football Club, was held in the local hall on Saturday, May 7th, bright and breezy dance music being supplied by the “Merry Niggers’ Dance Orchestra.”

During the evening a farewell presentation was made to Mr. J. G. Grant, who has been headmaster of the Mangapehi school for the past two years or so. During his residence in Mangapehi Mr. Grant had earned the respect of all, children and parents alike, and though we greatly regret his leaving the district the best wishes of the whole community will accompany him and Mrs. Grant to their new home in Springdale where Mr. Grant has been appointed headmaster.
