GENERAL.
MORE FACTS ABOUT THE PIN. Despite the antiquity of the pin it was not until 1824 that it was manufactured by machinery in En g : a nd. The pin begins its life as part of a great length of brass wire wound round a reel. After various processes of "thinning out," the pins as we know them are turned out in their thousands daily. When we first encounter the pins they are neatly arranged in rows on a sheet of paper, and each row a different size. This arrangement is all done by machinery. The pins are placed on the paper, which is then "crimped" to form edges through which the pins are ultimately pushed. This machine never errs, but fills up
f he sheet with perfect accuracy. Millions and millions of pins are made every year, but no matter how many are made the demand is always for more. Thus we have the very common question: "Where do all the pins go to?"
