THE RABBIT PEST
THE OTOROHANGA BOARD. ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Otoro hanga Rabbit Board was held in the Court House, Otorohanga, on Monday, when there was a full attendance of members and the secretary-treasurer, Mr. J. G. Wynyard, of Te Awamutu. The election of members resulted: Mr. Bradlaugh Symes (Pirongia Road), chairman, re-elected; Mr. Mark Cowley (Pirongia-Kawhia Road); Mr. Henry Rothery (Hangatiki area); Mr. John Williamson (HOnikiwi); Mr. C. L. Browne (Whawharua and Tahaia area). Mr. George Martin, who formerly represented the latter area, did not seek re-election. Mr. Wynyard automatically continues to serve the Board as secretary and treasurer. Mr. Bonner, stock inspector, of Te Kuiti, represents the Agricultural Department on the Board.
It was disclosed at the meeting that the field staff were doing good work fumigating, poisoning and trapping the pests. As an instance of the good work being done by the Board to reduce the rabbit population the Te Kopua area, which was recently worked by the staff, only yielded 100 rabbits, as against some 6000 a year ago. In several former years this, then infested district, usually provided trappers with large quantities of skins during the winter months, and the early spring period.
