PIO PIO DOG TRIALS

VERY SUCCESSFUL MEETING. EXCELLENT ENTRIES RECEIVED Much success attended the 21st annual dog trials of the Pio Pio Collie Club, held on Mr. J. H. McDowell's farm on the Mairoa Road during the early part of the week. The weather was fine throughout the trials, and they were witnessed by a large number of spectators. Entries were very gratifying—there were 42 entries for the Long Head, 29 for the Short Head, 11 for the Short Head and Huntaway, and 25 for the Huntaway. Mr. S. Voyce was the judge of the first three events, and Mr. K. Black, of Awakino, judged the Huntaway.

The events resulted as follows: Class I.—Long Head. Fraser Smith's "Highland King," 47 pts 1 H. Price's "Mack," 45 pts 2 G. Sutherland's "Kep," 43 1 pts. 3 Fraser Smith's "Highland King" won the Fraser Smith Cup presented for this event. Three competitors, B. Doole's Cob, J. Trust's Joe, and McDowell's Peg, .tied for the Dowdall Cup for the best local dog, and the names of all three owners will be inscribed on the Cup. The same three competitors tied for the Farmers' trophy for the best local maiden dog. Entries totalled 42.

Class ll. — Short Head, Drive and Yard.

Fraser Smith's "Highland King," 581. pts 1 G. Sutherland's "Ring," 52 pts. 2 Fraser Smith's "King II," 51 pts 3

The Club Cup for this event was won by Fraser Smith's "Highland King," and Mrs. Topp's Cup for the best local maiden dog was won by P. Griffen's Kemp, with B. Doole's Cob second. There were 29 entries. Class lll.—Short Head and Huntaway. H. Price's "Bill," 30 pts 1 J. Wright's "Toss," 29 pts. .-. 2 P. Price's "Lass," 28£ pts 3 The Club's cup for this event was claimed by H. Price's "Bill," who also secured the Associated Auctioneers' Cup for the best local maiden dog, with P. Price's "Lass" second. There were 11 entries.

Class IV. — Huntaway

B. Doole's "Vep," 38J pts,

D. Calvert's "Jock," 34 pts. . . 2 M. Neal's "Mack," 33?- pts. .. 3 B. Doole's "Vep" won the Mangaotaki tea set and the Fraser Smith Cup for the dog scoring most points in this event, and the Bargain Store trophy for the best local maiden dog. In this latter competition M. Neal's "Mack" was placed second. The R. Boddy Cup, for the best dogs in Classes 111 and IV was won by H. Price's "Bill," with 61 1 ptsThe R. W. Neal Memorial Shield, for the highest points in Classes 1 and 4, was won by B. Doole's dogs Cob and Vep with 781 pts.

The Bradley trophy was won by the same dogs.
