BREACH OF AWARD
JCDGMENT AGAINST HOTELKEEPER. Judgment against James McPherson Kelly, a former proprietor of the Grand Central Hotel, Te Kuiti, was entered by Mr. F. H. Levien, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court yesterday, for wages and special holiday pay due to two employees, Maud Hughes and Florence Barton, and for breaches of the award in respect of these two em-
ployees. Kelly was also convicted on charges of failing to keep a wages book: in the prescribed form and with employing an assistant and failing to grant her the half-holiday prescribed in the Act. On each of these convictions he was ordered to pays costs 255. These two offences were admitted by the defendant, as were certain other issues, and the principal matter at issue during the hearing yesterday was the question of hours and overtime. The evidence of the inspector, Butler, and that of the defendant, Kelly, had been taken elsewhere, and the Court was engaged yesterday afternoon in hearing the evidence of employees. At the close of the hearing judgment was given for the inspector of factories, James Mclvor, for breaches of the Finance Act in respect to the employment of Maud and Florence Barton. The sum of £2O had been claimed and £2 was awarded.
The sum of £24. was claimed by Barton in respect of overtime and holiday pay, and of this amount judgment for £2O 2s Id was awarded. Costs amounted to £2 lis.
Judgment • was obtained against Kelly by Hughes for £l7 15s of her claim for £2l 7s 6d for overtime and holiday pay. Costs in this instance amounted to £2 6s.
